Richard B. Schwartz MD PhD

Medical Director

Richard B. Schwartz MD PhD (Medical Director) has been a practicing radiologist for more than 30 years. He received his MD and PhD (in neuroanatomy) at the University of Pennsylvania. He did a residency in radiology and a fellowship in neuroradiology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Prior to starting Longwood MRI, he served as the Assistant Director of Neuroradiology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and an Associate Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Schwartz has authored more than 100 articles, book chapters, and proceedings on a variety of subjects, and he is an internationally respected academician who has been invited to lecture widely in the United States as well as in Europe and Asia. He has taught hundreds of medical students, residents, fellows, and staff members over his two decades at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and has given dozens of presentations to radiologists, internists and surgeons.

Dr. Schwartz is available on-site to provide readings and answer any questions. Other trusted radiologists from the Harvard medical system contribute subspecialty expertise on challenging cases.

By nomination of fellow physicians, Dr. Schwartz of Longwood MRI has been awarded “Top Doc” (Diagnostic Radiology) by Boston Magazine in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. He was also recognized by US News and World Report in 2010 as one of the nation’s “Top Doctors.”
